Bank Falls First National River

Canoeing is a great past time, especially in Arkansas. The Buffalo National River used to be home to many Indians including the Paleo-Indian tribe. Canoes were a way of transportation for many of the Indians because roads and vehicles were not available.

Location of Buffalo National River

The Buffalo National River stretches 135 miles in length and is "one of the few remaining rivers in the lower 48 states without dams," states the National Park Service in the article America's First National River.

The Buffalo National River can be accessed in many different towns in Arkansas including Rush, Buffalo Point, Maumee and Jasper. There are many places that rent out canoes on Highway 14 past Yellville, Arkansas.
